01.04 Denotations and Connotations 1. Having demonstrated its versatility as a high-tech newswire, Twitter drew the attention of those who would prefer to see certain information suppressed. a. Synonym = flexible b. I chose the word flexible, because the original word, “versatility” shows that Twitter is adaptable to receiving all kinds of news and more. I used this word to explain how high-tech Twitter really is with information.
2. Millions of users attempted to log into Twitter only to be greeted by the service's iconic "fail whale," the image of a cartoon whale being hoisted into the air by a flock of birds, signaling a site outage. a. Synonym = classic b. I chose the word classic, because the original word, “iconic” shows that Twitter’s “fail whale” cartoon is easily remembered as an error in the network. I used this word to emphasize how recognizable the whale is.
