Casting Without Limits by Richard Schechner -Casting directors use gender, age, race, and body type to cast roles -Richard encourages blind casting-casting people in roles regardless of whether they fit the conventional characteristics for it. Does not believe that those characteristics dont matter, but he believes skilled professionals can pull those characteristics off w/o needing to actually physically embody them -Women began being cast as male roles but were often exploited for their sexuality in these roles -Women cast in male roles often had their male characters feminized -Hamlet is often cast as a woman bc of how ambiguous his traits are, he is a man but does not fill the “macho” role -It is more difficult to cross roles in realism theater bc expectations are already set in the audiences mind and the performers -Gender dimorphism is on the wane bc of the internet and world sports...
