Cultural Work:

The Culture Works that I am familiar is historical interest on my country Puerto Rico. Castillo San Felipe del Morro has phenomenal history behind.

What characteristics or elements of the work stand out to you? The history about the Castle San Felipe del Morro. El Morro is one of the icons structures in Puerto Rico. The castle faces the Atlantic Ocean and is situated in what we know now as Old San Juan. The element of the history behind got my attention since I was at school. Currently The Castle San Felipe del Morro is a museum that various groups including students and tourists

explore the fortification, and visitors of all ages take advantage of the breathtaking view to snap pictures.

What do you think the creator intended to express?

Castle San Felipe del Morro was name is honored of king Phillips II of Spain. El Morro and may others Spanish government buildings in Old San Juan become a part of a large US Army during World War II. The United States Army added a massive concrete bunker to the top of El Morro to serve as a Harbor Defense Fire control station.

Were they successful? Since they build this castle, the US Army was able to deter sea attacks and when on to withstand two World Wars.

Cultural Work: The cultural work that is unfamiliar and I am interested in is the Mexican Flag

What characteristics or elements of the work stand out to you? The Mexican Flag has a background story that is fascinating. It goes back further than most with origins in the Azteca Culture that from 1300’s. The Mexican flag is full of national symbolism. The green stripe represents the Independence of the Mexican Movement. The white stripe represents the purity of the Catholic faith. The red stripe represents the Spaniards that joined in the quest for Independence and the blood of the national heroes.

What do you think the creator intended to express?

Francisco Eppen Helguera design the Mexican Flag. He represents the struggle for Mexican independence took place under a few flags. The flag was finally achieved in 1821 under the conservative Iguala Plan. This design may have been influenced by the French Tricolor, but the colors were distinctively Mexican.

Were they successful? The story, creation of the Mexican Flag was successful. The Flag of Mexico is universally accepted without any disputed. All Mexicans, those who live within the national territory and those outside, respect and celebrate it. Also, the have a day of the Mexican Flag that is celebrate every February 24.
