CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION I.

Background of the Study Coronavirus is altering the educational landscape's basis. Because of the virus's ease

of transmission and the obscurity of the symptoms for the first few days, it spreads rapidly. With vaccinations expected to be available in over a year and the severity of the symptoms making herd immunity an expensive option, the short-term remedy is confinement and social isolation. To avoid further pollution and prevent hospitals from being overburdened, authorities have shut down non-essential businesses and gathering places. The traditional classroom setting has departed, and online learning and modular has failed to fully replace it, altering everyone's daily rhythm and routine. Teachers' adaptability and passion have been put to the test in their efforts to maintain a feeling of normalcy, to maintain pupils' well-being while still pushing for academic advancement. Education has a significant impact on the lives of students. Teachers are one of the most important tools in delivering great learning in this process. Many changes occurred in the educational scene as a result of the introduction of COVID-19 in the Philippines. One of these is the manner of instruction that the Department of Education has established. Because of the present COVID-19 dilemma, most educational systems have been forced to seek alternatives to face-to-face teaching and learning. Many school districts switched activities to modular learning to allow instruction to continue even while schools were closed (OECD, 2020). The movement in school teaching-learning delivery to modular distant learning makes the delivery of fundamental

quality education more harder for school workers. That is why DepEd officials are always looking for solutions to alleviate challenges and equip teachers and school administrators to be more effective in the field of modular remote learning (Bagood, 2020). The Philippine educational system is currently adjusting to the most recent blended learning model, which is presently being implemented, all throughout the globe Despite demands for an academic freeze in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, the education sector maintains that education must not be harmed. Teachers, particularly conventional teachers, are struggling to keep up with this pandemic then. As all companies shut down, the world came to a halt and the economy crumbled. Most nations, for example, shuttered schools, colleges, and institutions to prevent the virus from spreading. The crisis had an impact on more than only the health and education sectors. During the peak of the epidemic, educational institutions provided remote learning as an option. Despite the closure order, lessons continue to be held (Kasrekar, 2020). Because face-to-face courses are more likely to transmit the virus, teaching and learning online and modular is the most effective choice. This platform is a challenge to both teachers and students since it introduces them to new experiences. This needs a 'adapt soon' response to the new standard in teaching and learning in the middle of the pandemic. Since the shift to modular learning occurred too quickly, academic institutions must develop and push new instructional methodologies. The question of whether private and public schools are ready in terms of technical infrastructure and instructional style is yet unresolved.

challenges and problems encountered? 5. What training program may be suggested to improve teachers' pedagogy in both private and public schools via the use of new modalities?

III.

learning modality amid pandemic. The challenges of teachers were identified based on how they plan, prepare and distribute modules, monitor students’ learning, check, evaluate outputs, and provide feedback on students’ performance. Furthermore, teachers used various ways to cope with the challenges encountered in modular distance learning modality such as time management, innovating teaching strategies, adapting to the changes brought by the new normal trend in education, being flexible, providing alternative plans, being optimistic, patient, and equipping

oneself with the necessary skills for the new normal ways of education. The results of the investigation would be significant and influential to the following: a.

Students - This study will provide information to the students, regarding what the

phenomenon of Modular Distance Learning. Assuming reasonable levels of success it might well be better for a student to experience more frequent satisfaction for their efforts. b.

Teachers - The study results with help the teachers know what type of action or strategy

they are going to use in enhancing the knowledge, skills, and attitude of the students. developing teaching and assessment programs. d.

Family – This study benefits to the parents in particular by providing information on module

distribution, home-based learning routines, and the obstacles they face with their children's modules. e.

Future Researchers- This study may inspire other studies to learn more about what

primary teachers face in the midst of the COVID-19 epidemic. Furthermore, the findings of this research will be used as reference data, offering information and guiding future researchers to conduct a more effective study on the subject.
