EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE

Introduction: The three main types or classes of rocks are sedimentary metamorphic and igneous and the differences among them have to do with how their are formed. *Sedimentary rocks are formed from particles of sand, shells, pebbles, and other fragments of material. *Metaporphic rocks are formed under the surface of the earth from the metamorphosis change that occurs due to intense heat and pressure (squeezing). *Igneous rocks are formed when magma (molten rock deep within the earth) cools and hardens. Sometimes the magma cools inside the earth and other times if erupts onto the surface from volcano.

Methodology: Last time our class assigned to bring 5 examples of different rocks hand lens and masking tape and our teacher told our class to identify them if its igneous, sedimentary, or methamorphic rocks. We need to define the textures, colors and the size of our rocks that we bring and after that we conductive observation of the rock. The following questions are the things we need to do to conduct and observation of the rocks that we bring: 1.) After rubbing your finger over the rock how did the surface feel? 2.) When the rocks are exposed to bright light did you see colors? What are they?

3.) Using the hand lens did you see particles on the rock can you describe them?

Result from the observation we conducted on the experiment revealed that the some rocks that my group bring is different from each other and some are same in the texture. We identify by rubbing the surface of the rock and some of the rocks did not change the color.

Conclusion: Based on the experiments we conducted: 1.) Igneous rocks from when hot molten rock crystallized and solidify the melt originates deep within the earth near active plate boundaries or hotspots. 2.) Sedimentary rocks are types of rocks that are formed by the accumulation or deposition of small particles.

3.) Metamorphic rocks arise from the transformation of the existing rock types in process called metamorphism which is means change it form the original rocks is subjected to heat temperature greater than 150-200 degree celcius.
