“A Raisin In the Sun” and “Trifles” took place in the different time periods and they present different American Dreams . "A Raisin In The Sun" was published in the 50's when dreams revolved around materialistic things. This play is about Black Family who is living in Chicago and struggling to improve their lives with the insurance of their father’s death. Unique characters are used to describe “American Dreams”. Every character has its own point of view regarding the American dream. In this play, the most cultivating character is of Lena “Mama” Younger, who is a strong-minded woman. Her dream is to move her family out of the ghetto into a house that will have a garden and children will play there and she can start gardening. Beneatha is another character of the play and the daughter of Lena Younger. Her dream is to become a doctor and to save her race from ignorance. The third character of the play is Walter Lee. He is the son of Lena Younger. He wanted to become wealthy and providing her family with a better status. Ruth's dream is simple. She is a typical housewife. She does all household tasks and keeps her desires to herself. Joseph Asagai is a Nigerian man studying in America(Chicago). He is a student and His dreams to return to his people and wanted to change Africa’s Landscape. Travis Younger is the youngest member of this family. His dream is not openly discussed. Whereas in "Trifles" The American dream is presented as isolation. In Trifles, Minnie lives with her husband. Her house was off the road Slightly below in a small hollow and not so easily seen which was representing the less-visited house. It means Minnie spent her time alone or with her husband. Isolation can affect people and relationships as well. In short, Trifles is showing the difference between man and woman. Both are presenting a different view of the American Dream but both want acceptance from society. Today's American dream is the belief that anyone from anywhere or of any cast or color can achieve his/her own dreams in her own decided way and everyone has the ability to grow successfully. American Dream is achieved through hardships and sacrifices and from risk-taking instead of having a chance....
