Scene 1 ● ● ● ●

Stella watches Stanley and Mitch go bowling. Blanche arrives at the Elysian Fields and waits for her sister. Stella returns, and they then greet each other Blanche talks to Stella about losing Belle Reve and the deaths of her family. ● Stanley meets Blanche; it’s clear that they are very different people. ● Blanche reveals her husband died when they both were younger.

Scene 2 ● ● ● ● ● ●

Blanche is bathing Stanley then demands to know what happened to Belle Reve. Stella tries to defend Blanche. Stella leaves, and Blanche finishes her bathing. Stanley confronts Blanche, and Blanche tries to flirt with Stanley. Stella’s pregnancy is unveiled.

Scene 3 ● The poker night: Stanley and his friends are playing poker, and are drinking ● Stella and Blanche return going out in the evening. ● Blanche then meets Mitch. ● Stanley is violent to Stella. ● Stella and Blanche go to the apartment upstairs. ● Stella goes back to Stanley, and they make love.

Scene 4 ● Blanche and Stella discuss the night before; Blanche is shocked at Stella’s acceptance of Stanley’s behaviour. ● Blanche is critical of Stanley. ● Stanley is listening to Blanche’s criticism of him without her awareness.

Scene 5 ● Eunice and Steve fight upstairs. ● Stanley hints that he knows of Blanche’s promiscuous past. ● Blanche flirts with the young man who collects the newspaper subscriptions. ● Mitch arrives, and he and Blanche go on their date.

Scene 6 ● Blanche and Mitch return from the date. ● They have a poignant conversation that showcases their differences. ● Blanche tells Mitch the story of how her husband committed suicide after she discovered he had homosexual tendencies. ● Mitch then comforts her, and they then discuss marriage.

Scene 7 ● Several months later; it is mid-September, and it is Blanche’s birthday. ● Stanley reveals Blanche’s promiscuous past to Stella. ● Blanche then realises that there is a change in the atmosphere.

Scene 8 ● Stanley, Stella and Blanche celebrate the birthday with a meal; but Mitch hadn’t arrived. ● Stanley becomes violent again, before giving Blanche a bus ticket back home as a suggested birthday gift. ● Stella complains at his cruel behaviour, but then goes into labour· ● Stanley takes her to the hospital to give birth.

Scene 9 ● Blanche and Mitch have been drinking. ● Mitch then visits Blanche and tells her that he knows about her promiscuous past. ● Blanche tries to explain herself, but he dismisses her and then attempts to rape her. ● She shouts “Fire!”. Then he leaves

Scene 10 ● Blanche is drunken; her instability is shown through actions. ● Stanley returns from the hospital and celebrates the birth of his child. ● Stanley uncovers Blanche’s true nature and rapes her.

Scene 11 ● Stella packs Blanche’s suitcase as she does not believe the story of the rape by Stanley. ● Blanche dresses for what she believes is a trip with a secret admirer. ● A doctor arrives with the nurse, and Blanche struggles against them when they take her away. ● She resists but they then talk gently to her and persuade her to come with them ● It is hinted that Stanley has sexual relations with Stella to try to comfort her....
