History The most ancient known reference to a vending machine dates back to first century Roman Egypt, set by Hero of Alexandria, a designer and mathematician in Roman Egypt . His machine took a coin and then meted out sacred water. Coin-worked machines that shelled out tobacco, operated around 1615 in the bars of England. The machines were versatile and made of brass. An English book retailer, Richard Carlile, formulated a daily paper distributing machine for the dispersal of restricted/censored works in 1822. The first fully automatic vending machine, was invented by Simeon Denham in 1867, who was also awarded a patent no.706 for his stamp dispersing machine. Fundamentally, individuals would drop tokens within the sacred water dispenser, and the mass of the token would push against a lever that opened a little entryway. While the entryway was open, the sacred water would drop out. In the end, be that as it may, the coin would fall and the entryway would close—guaranteeing that individuals never took more than what's coming to them of sacred water Modern Vending machines The earliest modern coin-operated machines were innovated in London, England around early 1880s, administering postcards.
