Description

GrubHub Company Summary Grubhub Inc. is an American online and mobile platform that connects a consumer to the nearest by food places in which they are able to order food and have the food delivered to them. With processing over 650,000 orders daily, Grubhub deals with over 300,000 restaurants in over 4,000 cities in the United States. It was founded in 2004 in Chicago, Illinois by Mike Evans, Roman Gaskill and Matt Maloney. The reason behind their founding was to provide an alternative to paper menus. Grubhub was able to expand due to the company securing fundings starting back in 2007, when they gained a $1.1 million in “Series A Funding” that was piloted by Amicus Capital and Origin Ventures. This was solely used to grow into the San Francisco and New York markets. Grubhub brands include Seamless (through a merge), Menu Pages, All Menus and Tapingo. Grubhub’s mission is as simple as it can get; “Our mission is to make takeout better.” The company does its best to not just build and maintain relationships with the consumers but with the restaurants it partners with. As briefly mentioned, besides fundings, through acquisitions Grubhub was able to see its success. Starting in 2011, Grubhub was able to put under its belt one of their competitors Dotmenu, based in New York. After, they completed an acquisition with AllMenus who’s parent company is Dotmenu. Fast forward to last year, in 2020, Uber announced that it was interested in doing a Grubhub takeover but Just Eat Takeaway beat them to it with the largest acquisition in the online food delivery industry for the amount of $7.3 billion in an all stock deal. Having an easy checkout has added to the company’s popularity alongside other features making it the best food delivery service overall, according to Tom’s Guide....
