“Education Must Go on!” Due to the pandemic that emerged because of the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 or also known as COVID-19, distance learning has been implemented as an alternative since face-to-face classes are not possible to be done. With the continuous spread of the said virus, the country has been put under the Enhanced Community Quarantine. For this particular reason, distance learning has been utilized by schools to continue the education of learners nationwide. Distance learning is a type of learning where students are not physically but virtually present in a class. As cited in an article written by Berg (2016), distance-learning or also called online learning is a form of education in which the main elements include physical separation of teachers and students during instruction and the use of various technologies. In distance learning, the different mediums that are used in this type of education are the internet, audio, and video through different gadgets. Students are attending online classes with the use of the internet in the comfort of their homes. Zoom calls or Google meets are the common virtual classroom for online learners. Through the myriad of resources that technology brought to the people, this easy and convenient way of learning has been possible.

“Distinction Between Academic and Non-Academic Texts” Academic texts are texts written by professionals and are for formal learning and gaining knowledge. They use formal language in writing. According to Satyabrata (2020), academic writing refers to a piece of writing which focuses on a specific academic subject. Also, academic writing is based on academic findings and research and is intended for a scholarly audience. Academic texts follow the standards since, from a grammar point of view, they are error-free. Moreover, academic texts are structured and organized. The third-person point of view is utilized. Additionally, these texts are based on facts and tend to be objective. The six main types of academic texts are textbooks, essays, theses, case studies, research articles, and reports. Non-academic texts on the other hand are ubiquitous and are intended for the mass public. Unlike academic texts, non-academic texts use informal language and are rule-breakers. They do not require spelling and grammar rules to be followed. Furthermore, they are unstructured and less organized. The contents of non-academic texts are often general subjects, based on conversational thought, and tend to be subjective. Some examples of these are email messages, personal opinions, newspapers, magazines, blogs, and social media posts. Despite these differences, academic and non-academic texts serve the same purpose. It is to entertain, persuade, or inform.
