Brave Girl Eating Chapter 9-Epilogue...

Description

Additional Reading In chapter 9, Kitty’s mother mentions how a big part of the grief she feels comes from the fact that she is realizing that Kitty is not perfect. I think that her view of Kitty as perfect really made the situation a lot harder because she had such a high opinion of Kitty and to have to realize that she is just a teenage girl in such a harsh way must have been difficult. I think it would be a lot easier for her to handle this and to help Kitty if she had already had to have realized that Kitty is not more special than any other teenage girl. I can see evidence of how hard this has been on Kitty’s mother when she comments about how much she wishes she could go back in time to before Kitty had anorexia. It’s comments like these that show me just how much the author is grieving the loss of her perfect child, because she is kind of refusing to believe that the Kitty she has to help every day is the same Kitty from before. She also shows a lot of the denial stage of grief when she has to separate Kitty from her anorexia. She refuses to believe that some of the things Kitty says and does are truly her. I think that this could definitely have a lot of impact, both good and bad, on Kitty’s recovery. It has a positive impact because it shows Kitty that she is more than just her anorexia and that she can still be herself. It has a bad impact, though, because it kind of enable’s Kitty to think that any bad thing she does or says can just be put on her anorexia and she won’t be held accountable. And while she shouldn’t be held accountable for she things she says and does while she is so ill, I think that it could lengthen the time it takes her to recover because any bad thing is just attributed towards the illness....
