1.How do the members of the Democratic-Republican Society defend their right to form a society that comments on public affairs. 2. What do they mean by writing that “the germ of an odious Aristocracy” has been planted in the United States?

It all started under the presidency of Georges Washington which was highly criticized and considered an aristocracy in its core. Later on, the opposition of the farmers to pay new government taxes on distilled liquor catapult the desire of the society to protect their right to comment and address matters that are related to public affairs. To that, the members of the Democratic-Republican Society proclaimed that freedom of speech and opinions are the socles of liberty and freedom of a nation. They put forward the constitution which guarantees freedom and non-violation of human rights and attached to it the same concept of public opinions which give the society the freedom to comment on public affairs particularly all subjects that directly concern the progress of society. The inability of the American society to remain silent because of systematic repression from government of legislations that support such practices was considered dangerous and odious. This system of governance which resembles to a form of aristocracy did not fit into the United

States which country was seeing as being strongly attached to principles of human rights and freedom for all.
