1. What is an allegory? An allegory is A genre (a story, poem or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one).

2. What is Plato’s theory on how we realize truth in the world; how we gain knowledge? Plato believed that truths can be discovered and that knowledge is possible . He thought that the truth is hidden behind our subconscious. 3. What is the purpose of the allegory? What is Socrates proposing about human nature? The purpose of allegory is to make the reader aware or understandable of social realities. Plato’s proposed that in order to live a happy life, one has to have an idea of the ends of human existence. 4. Who was Plato’s mentor? Socrates is plato's mentor 5. 7. What would happen to the escapee after he initially escapes the cave? How about after a while of being free? The escapee would suffer sharp pains due to the fact that he’s not used to the sunlight. The escapee would grow used to the light of reality in stages.

8. What does Socrates predict might happen if the escapees return to the cave? What would those still imprisoned say if they were offered freedom? How would they justify their response? Plato predicted that the escapees who had seen the sunlight, would be blind when he returned to the cave. Those imprisoned would think that he’s insane and that if he unchained them that they will kill him.

9. Socrates quotes Homer, when mentioning what the imprisoned would feel upon the proposal to escape the cave: “Better to be a poor servant of a poor master, and to endure anything, rather than think as they do and live after their manor”. What does he mean by this? It means that it’s better to live in the lowest of the poor, where you would be subjected to falsehood. 10. What character traits must good leaders possess, according to Socrates, and why?

Prudence (Wisdom), justice (fairness), temperance (moderation), and courage (resilience) are character traits that good leaders possess according to Plato because it's goal of attaining knowledge.

11. Why do you think more people choose to stay in the “dark” than put effort and persistence into seeking knowledge and truth in the world? I think more people chose to stay in the “dark” so they can stay out of trouble and be safe....
