Description

Dear Dr. Jose Rizal, I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for all you have done for us. I've never met you, but I feel like I know you better than I do. We Filipinos are thanking you for all that you have done for our country. Because you are one in a million, the best guy the Philippines had. I learnt that you were an author, poet, ophthalmologist, and journalist after studying your life in school. It was no surprise that you were a great student because you demonstrated your precocious mind at such a young age. Filipinos today are also aware of your other talents as a sculptor, farmer, and educator, thanks to your prolific publications, you can do a lot of things. You had it all, yet you decided to speak up and write against the oppressors of your time, and you paid the price for it. I'd like to believe that your decision to fight for our country's freedom exemplifies the modest spark of patriotism that exists in every Filipino's heart, regardless of who we are and what we are. The decision to take action in the face of whatever societal issues we face is the thin line that divides heroes from the rest. The biggest foe is apathy and indifference, which is progressively sweeping the country after hopelessness has taken hold. Please accept my gratitude for Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. They aided in the formation of a sense of Filipino nationalism. Most importantly, thank you for willingly laying down your life. La Revolucion Filipina would have taken much longer if it hadn't been for you. I'm sure you were aware of this prior to your execution, but that didn't stop you from doing what you thought was right. Wherever you are, send us your best wishes for the bravery we need to confront this new oppression. Inspire us to unleash our inner hero by being the best version of ourselves as we struggle to restore integrity to our institutions in this modern times. I hope we don't have to die like the heroes of your time to accomplish this, because we Filipinos are going to live our life to the fullest, thanks to you. Sincerely yours, Len Robin Salazar...
