Anatomy of a Fire Scene As noted from the video, fire has a great impact on the surrounding area. Firefighters and emergency vehicles are often the first to arrive at a fire scene, each having an important role to play in saving lives and property. A typical fire scene constitutes four fire engines, a ladder truck, two command vehicles, and a local ambulance company also sends a unit just in case someone gets injured. Fireground activities commence with the first arriving engine which gives a size-up for all arriving personnel, connections to the hydrants are made and the fire attack horse line is pulled to the structure. Firefighters then enter the structure, but this is dependent on a number of factors. Two chiefs supervise, one acts as a commander of the scene while the other as a safety officer. Additionally, there is a rapid intervention team. They prepare the structure for rescue, looking for hazards and creating access to the building. A rehab center for evaluating firefighters for physical stress or injury is also usually set up in the scene. A lot of things happen and at the same time, and is usually highly organized and nonchaotic. This entails a lot of people simultaneously doing a job in a place they’ve never been.
