ASSIGNMENT 2: VALUES & COVER LETTERS Student Name: Nathaniel Wilson

Part B: Assess Company/Organization Culture Compatibility 1. Re-list your deal breaker values and identify whether or not you think the companies from the job postings you selected in Assignment 1 will satisfy each value. Quote and/or explain the specific evidence you found in your web search that supports your conclusion. If you really can’t say a clear yes or no, you can say maybe, but you will need to provide more evidence to explain why it might be a yes and why it might be a no. EXAMPLE Deal breaker values Expertise/Mastery

Satisfied? Yes or no Yes

Evidence (why do you think so)? The company’s career section of their website has a whole page dedicated to Development and Possibilities. They specifically state: “We believe in everyone’s ability to develop. Because as you grow, our company grows too.” This makes me believe that my desire to learn and grow will be valued.

Job Posting 1: Arts 1 - Clearbanc Deal breaker value 1. Detailed/Precision Work

Satisfied? Yes or no Yes

Evidence (why do you think so?) At Clearblanc part of the duties of the representative would be to collect required data from the entrepreneurs, interpret it and implement. They ask you to follow up with your clientele and this is an important skill that a lot of operations lack. Follow up is significant in the business world as it allows you to check up on deals that are in the works to see where everyone’s head is at and also keeps you at ease. This is implemented in detailed and precision work as it often enables and individual to dive deeper and think more accurately on their feet. Its also important to clearblanc

2. Helping others/Individuals

Yes

3. Problem Solve

No

p. 2 because they give you an opportunity to gather required data, and then interpret and implement it. This ensures precision work because youre helping entrepreneurs grow ecommerce and B2C businesses. Clearblanc needs its representatives to work with and gain from the group long term who have involvement with building organizations from the ground up and selling them. The capacity to team up likewise encourages the worker to more readily serve the business and work with entrepreneurs. as referenced in Clearblanc job responsibilities, clearblanc works in a changing domain where the representative would continually confront new difficulties in which they would need to deliberately and smoothly oversee the operation by settling on the correct choices. This incline limits the amount of on your feet decision making which is a strong asset in the business world.

Job Posting 2: Arts 2 - CIHI Deal breaker value

1. Supportive Supervisor

Satisfied ? Yes or no No

2. Recognition/Appreciatio n

No

3. Fast-Paced

Yes

Evidence (why do you think so?)

CIHI has expressed that it needs the representative to have the option to work separately as coordinated by the administrator. And yet as a component of the group. It needs the representative to do both with insignificant oversight. I thinkThey fail to acknowledge the repercussions of not checking up on your staff and encouraging them to keep on doing what they are doing. The lack of support can create unmotivated staff. I think CIHI fails to look at recognizing their associates work. On top of them giving their staff minimal direct supervision they fail to talk about when associates are engaging in research would the associate be able to get recognition off of their findings. Nowhere within CIHI’s job description does it talk about being fast paced. I think this is important because in order to ensure things get done correctly and swiftly without having

p. 3 to go back to correct things it enables associates first starting to get a good sense or idea of future job aspects within a business sector. Thus gradually incorporating them Into learning specific roles.

2. Based on the results of the above charts, decide which company/organization (aka job posting) is a better fit with your deal-breaker values. Perhaps one of them satisfies more of your intrinsic values and the other more of your extrinsic values – does this factor into your decision? Perhaps one MIGHT satisfy a LOT of your values while another has clear evidence that it WILL satisfy a FEW of your values – is concrete online evidence important to you? Please provide reasons for your assessment of fit. Chosen Company/Job Posting:

Arts 1 - Clearbanc

Explanation: I think the job the most aligns with my deal breakers is Clearblanc and this is for multiple reasons. For starters I align perfectly with a lot of their values and what they stand for. Ive always wanted to enter into a field that had to do with partnering up with entrepreneurs. The sentence of “This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious person looking to make an impact in an early company while getting exposure to financial technology” is what mostly caught my eye. This company is giving you the opportunity to learn from them and make connections with the entrepreneurs you are surrounded by. This is huge especially in a business context as its really all about making connections. I chose this job over CIHI because it factors in a lot of my intrinsic values more then my extrinsic values and I feel I hold intrinsic values more then extrinsic. That has been factored into my decision based on the fact that CIHI lacked a lot of the extrinsic values that I could potentially say meant more to me. All in all I think Clearblanc is the perfect fit for me as it can enable to me to get my foot into the door and put me on a path that will lead to bigger and better things.

Part C: Develop a Cover Letter Values Statement 1. Choose 2 or 3 of the values that are satisfied by the position you chose above. 2. Write a clear, concise, and well-constructed sentence or paragraph you could include in a cover letter to the company from your chosen job posting to show that employer how your values align with theirs.

creativity/innovation

Value sentence/paragraph As someone who thrives on variety and performs best in innovative and fast-paced settings with varying demands, I bring a high level of energy and creativity to your dynamic work environment.

Now it’s your turn: What company value are you attempting to align yourself with? Feel free to quote statements from the job posting or website as in the example above. We embrace openness and transparency. You'll get the chance to work closely with our team who have built, scaled and sold companies before. While we're obsessed with our vision, we don't take ourselves too seriously. We don't know all the answers so we're constantly experimenting and learning together.
