1.0 Introduction Computers can be define as an electronic device, operating under the control of intructions stored in its own memory. Computers are being used in everywhere around us. For example, In the workplace, employees usually use computers to create correspondence such as e-mail messages, memos, and letters. Another example, at school, teachers use computers to assist with classroom instruction. Students like us also use computers to complete assignments and research especially in this pandemic where computer is basically a basic necessary for students. People also spend hours of leisure time using a computer. They always play games, communicate with friends and relatives online like using instagram or facebook, purchase goods online from shopee or lazada, converse in chat rooms, listen to music or radio broadcasts, watch or create videos and movies like netflix, read books and magazines, share stories, and retouch photos. These examples just show how important computers are in our daily life. There are 4 important components that makes a computer which are system unit, input/output, secondary storage and communications. Computers can be divided into 4 types which are personal computers (PC) which is the least powerful yet the most common where almost everyone have one. Dekstop, laptop, tablet, smartphones and wearables are included in this type of computers. Next is midrange computer which a more powerful computer than personal computer. Then, a mainframe computer. A large, expensive, powerful computer that can handle hundreds or thousands of connected users simultaneously. Last but not least, is a supercomputer that are so big, powerful and the fastest among all.

2.0 Advantages Of Using Computers

2.1 Speed Computers is a programmed device with a group of instruction to perform specific tasks and generate results at a high speed. A computer is a machine that can solve difficult and different problems, process data, store & retrieve data and perform calculations faster and accurately as compared to humans. There are some advantages of using computers like speed, reliability, accuracy, storage, and communication. For advantages of computers in speed, nowadays computer isn’t just calculating device and also played a vital role in human life. The speed of computers also incredible speed, which helps human to finish their task in few seconds. 2.2 Reliability Next, the computers also have reliability. Computers can perform the same sort of work repeatedly without throwing up errors thanks to tiredness or boredom which are quite common among humans. In addition, the computers also have consistency in accuracy. One among the basic advantage of the computer is which will perform not only calculations but also with a consistency of accuracy that helps human to do their work more easily and fast. Accuracy increase will benefit many sectors that need heavy calculation like the economy, accounting and finance which is the computers will helps so much in this field. 2.3 Storage Moreover, the advantages of computers device in this era are compatible to store a large amount of data storage. This because the Pc has an inbuilt memory where it can be stored and outsized amount of knowledge. We can also store data in auxiliary storage in our devices to make sure our data are securely stored in Pc. Data storage nowadays also can be stored by cloud data technology which new ways to save data which you now can access the data you stored can be accessed in any devices that you have not only focused on one device just like never before. 2.4 Communications The advantages of computer also are important in developing virtual communication throughout this COVID-19 pandemic era. Computers play a heavy role in this pandemic era because humans cannot meet each other to communicate and settle their works, meeting, etc to avoid transmitting this deadly virus. In This context, to make sure the humans continued to communicate with each other is by meet virtually on the computers by video calls or video conferencing using PCs. The computer will continuously help the user in better understanding and communication with the other devices.

3.0 Disadvantages of using computers : 3.1 Health risk  Headaches usually occur when using a computer due to increased muscle tone or pain in the neck at the base of the skull. Long-term use will affect vision and vision needs to be corrected. This can also lead to headaches. This is one more reason why you should take headaches seriously. This is a way to prevent headache when a long usage of computers :  Keep the neck straight when in front of the computer. Continuously looking down or spreading neck to the side can also cause pain. Take an intermediate break and turn the neck a little to relieve tension.  Excessive computer uses stresses the human’s eyes , which can cause permanent damage to the human eye .Human eyes can be strained by bright light, glare, or a flickering picture. Dry eyes will result from constantly concentrating on the screen without blinking. Another issue you may have is computer vision syndrome. Here are some natural remedies to improve the vision :  Adjust the contrast and brightness to avoid eye strain . Tilt the screen to avoid glare .  Keep an adequate distance from the screen infrequently . Do not forget to blink . 3.2 Violation of privacy  By illegally using or penetrating consumers computers or networks in software programs , consumers’private information can be infringed . Software programs such as games ,anti-virus programs and word processors can acces users’private information to security breaches .  Computers may be vulnerable to attacks that illegally intercept or transmit private information through server networks , the internet and other networks under various state and federal consumers protection laws ,unauthorized data collection may be illegal . 3.3 Public safety  People around the world are using computers to publicly share their photos , videos , diaries and other personal information .Some of these unsuspecting and innocent computer users have become victims of crimes commited by dangerous stranger .  privacy is more risky when using public computers such as in libraries and in cyber cafes because many people use them. sometimes people can find out our privacy as a result of not being careful when using public computers because of revealing personal information as well as our account’s password . These are a safety tips when using a computer to secure our privacy :  Never forget to Log Out Of anything 3

3.4 Impact of labor force  Computers have , in many ways , increased productivity and created the entire industry with hundreds of thousands of new jobs , but the technology of millions employees has replaced the technology with computers . Therefore it is important for workers to keep their education up to date .  Another impact of the workforce is that same companies out source work abroad instead of hiring their home workforce . 3.5 Impact on environment  Computer manufacturing processes and computer waste deplete natural resources and pollute the environment . It can release toxic substances that landfill the computer and potentially dangerous levels of leads , mercury , and flame retardants . Burning electronic waste produces harmful amounts of pollution and pollutes the air. This pollution is related to asthma and other respiratory diseases caused by waste-burning workers and people living in communities near the burning site. Air pollution can also cause destructive and irreversible effects on ecosystems, and adversely affect soil and water chemistry. Improper disposal of electronic hardware that was found in cell phones and battery computers containing heavy metals such as lithium, mercury and lead can release harmful chemicals through the ground and into the groundwater stream. When these toxins enter the water system, animals and people who drink the contaminated water will suffer harmful effects, such as lead poisoning.

5.0 Conclusion Computers can be good to us but also can be bad. There are few example of advantages and disadvantages of using computers. For advantages, computers have a fast connection, large storage to store memories and information, can be rely on and function in our daily communication. For disadvantages, it can risk our health, violate our privacy, a threat in our public safety, can give impact on our labor force and also environment. So as a responsible computer user, we need to use computer as good as we can to avoid any missuse.
