Description

Right hemispheric stroke: visual spatial deficits, left hemianopsia, one side neglect Left hemispheric stroke: expressive aphasia, right hemiplegia Allergy skin test that alter results: ACE inhibitors, beta blockers, theophylline, nifedipine, glucocorticoids; for steroids like prednisone discontinue for 2 weeks before testing Total hip arthroplasty: legs abduction, don’t flex greater than 90*, place pillow between legs Aphasia- communication disorder; have communication board Dysphagia- difficulty swallowing risk for aspiration keep suction machine at bedside Fluid volume deficit- increase heart rate, hypotension, urine specific gravity greater than 1.030, BUN greater than 20. Treat cancer wear: lead apron and film badge, limit visitors to 30min per day ICP findings: distended jugular veins, sleepiness, difficulty arousing, widening pulse pressure, decerebrate and decorticate posturing Dehydration: urine specific gravity greater than 1.030 Enalapril adverse effect: tachycardia, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, insomnia Sildenafil (treat erectile dysfunction): do not take if taking nitroglycerin, cause diarrhea Cardioversion meds okay to take: enoxaparin, diazepam NOT digoxin Complication for wound healing: BMI less than 18.5, urine output 25ml/hr, Epoetin alfa (chemo drug): monitor blood pressure, intake iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12, increase protein adverse effects are seizures, hypertension, heart failure, MI, stroke, thrombolytic event Barium contrast: increase fluid intake, increase fiber intake, chalky white stools may appear, take laxative Colorectal cancer dietary: high fiber, low fat, low carbohydrates, foods high in fiber (cabbage,cauliflower,broccoli) Blood transfusion: remain with pt first 15 min, use 0.9% sodium chloride, transfuse within 2 to 4hrs Erythropoietin: increases RBC taking to increase energy and result in hypertension
