What was IS trying to accomplish by establishing a state like entity? What does this tell us about the nature of insurgency and how they try to challenge state authority and legitimacy?
- Utility (water, power) - Currency - Exports (oil, amphetamines, weapons) - Taxation - Justice system (Sharia Courts) - Day-to-day mundane activity (street signs, schools)
-providing security and stability in ways the government does it makes them more legitimate -allows them to consolidate power -tend last long because they hold power and territory for a long time -allows them to gain popular support of the people
