GENERIC NAME: Aztreonam
MOA: bactericidal; inhibits cell wall synthesis (monobactam) INDICATIONS: Treatment of bacterial infections in several different systems of the body CONTRAINDICATIONS/PRECAUTIONS: Hypersensitivities to drug/class/compon. Use cation with hypersensitivity to beta-lactams, renal impairment, or hepatic impairment. INTERACTIONS with other Drugs/Substances: No major interactions recorded Avoid: - live typhoid vaccine - live intravesical BCG Caution advised: - mycophenolate mofetil - mycophenolic acid - sodium picosulfate No risk with pregnancy or lactation Excretion through urine PATIENT RESPONSE / REACTIONS: DESIRED OUTCOME: Treatment and elimination of bacterial infection

- sore throat - fever. Fever may be more common in children than in adults. -chest discomfort -stomach area (abdominal) pain -vomiting NURSING ACTIONS: Nurses should know the difference in dosage between iv, injection, and inhalation doses.
ASSESS: Question the patient on allergies to any antibiotics. Have liver or kidney problems. If they are planning on getting pregnant or are pregnant. Any medications they take including herbs, vitamins, home remedies.

TEACH: Teach the patient about dosage and inform them of adverse side effects that call for contacting health care providers. Such as diarrhea or bloody stool (signs of new infection)
