Description

1 Dayna Pryor Professor Nilsen SPD-200-TR700A September 9, 2018 Beyond F.A.T. City 1.

How does Richard D. Lavoie define and explain fairness in the classroom? Lavoie defines and explains that fairness in a classroom as the impact of others, but not just one person. It changed so many people from looking at this video. It is about good human relations. Lavoie explains that he treats adults the way many of them treat kids. Lavoie says, “If you wouldn’t do it to an adult, then don’t do it to a kid (Beyond F.A.T. City).” Lavoie explains that fairness in the classroom is that Fairness doesn’t mean everyone gets the same, it means that everyone gets what he or she needs, but also because everyone’s needs are different so what you are going to get is going to be different as well (Beyond F.A.T. City).

2.

What advice does Lavoie offer to parents regarding fairness? Lavoie offers that not everything is going to be fair between children regarding fairness. In

other discussions, it is about what students go through and how the teachers or parents don’t understand what they go through (Beyond F.A.T. City). Kids often convince us that fairness means everyone gets the same. The advice he gives to parents and teachers is giving them permission to treat them differently. It is the parents and teachers to meet the needs of the students.

2 3.

What does Lavoie say about assumptions, and why does he discuss them? Lavoie says that there are teachers that will assume that students can’t complete a worksheet

or participate in class. He discusses them because there are parents and teachers that both assume and they don’t understand what the students are going through. (Beyond F.A.T. City) 4.

What are three key concepts from the video that were especially meaningful to you? How will they affect your professional teaching practice? The three concepts from the video that was most meaningful to me were fairness,

assumptions, and remedial education. These were the most important to me because this shows how similar students and teachers or parents are treated the same. This affects me in my professional teaching practice by always treat kids with the same respect as if they were your children. I will also be able to apply this to my classroom when I look for different activities.
