Annelid+Dissection+Lab with labeled photos and answers...

Description

Annelid Dissection Lab If you have access to an earthworm specimen and dissection equipment you can use any Earthworm Dissection Protocol to complete the dissection. As you are doing the dissection answer the questions below. For example, you could use the protocol at: https://www.carolina.com/teacher-resources/Interactive/earthworm-dissection-guide/tr10714.tr#

If you do not have access to the dissection materials you can still do the lab using a virtual dissection at http://glencoe.mheducation.com/sites/dl/free/0078802849/383950/BL_14.html (requires flash or Google Chrome web browser) or using the PowerPoint presentation at http://local.brookings.k12.sd.us/krscience/zoology/worms/f10earthwormdissection.ppt (this link will download the presentation).

External Anatomy 1. How do you distinguish between the posterior end and the anterior end? The anterior end is more cylindrical than the flat posterior end. 2. How do you determine which side is the dorsal side and which side is the ventral side? The dorsal side is dark and round. The ventral side is pale and flat. 3.

Near one end of the worm is a section that has segments larger than the others. a) What is the name of the structure? It is called the clitellum. b) What is the function of this structure? The clitellum produces mucus for mating.
