The Breakfast Club Assignment 1. Forming - When they first came together, everyone was being mean to each other because they have never met each other before. The group is also coming from different backgrounds. Eg. Andrew the “jock” and Bender is seen as the “rebel”. - Group also had a bonding moment before lunchtime. Storming - Their personalities clashed in the beginning. They weren’t familiar with each other and mentally judged one another. Andrew and Bender had a physical altercation over Claire. Norming - When the principal came in wondering what the loud noise was and Bender was hiding underneath the desk between Clarie’s legs. The group all made noises to throw the principal off and not get Bender into trouble also when the group decided to smoke weed it brought them together. Performing - When the group decided to run away from the principal. John baited himself out so that the rest of the students could get back without the principal noticing. Adjourning - During their group confession time, everybody broke down explaining their life behind closed doors. As the group is listening and exchanging their stories they realize that they are all different but similar which brings them together. In the end, they come to the conclusion of who they are. For example, Andrew is the “athlete”, Brain is the “nerd”, Clarie is the “princess”, Allison is the “basket case” and Bender is the “criminal”.

The Breakfast Club is a protective factor for these 5 youths because being at school on a

Saturday in the early morning makes them realize that this is not a place want to be on the weekend. So they will try not to do anything that might put them back into Saturday detention or cause any trouble again. They also bonded and made a friendship, if it wasn’t for the detention class they wouldn’t have met.

I believe the most at-risk person is Bender. He is being abused at home by his father and

because of this, he is having difficulty respecting authority and takes his anger out is school. Also, he is around with the wrong crowd of friends which are known to be hanging around in the streets and causing trouble which can be a negative influence on him. I would support Bender by listening to him and asking him what is wrong with him and not laugh and make a joke out of his life which can make him feel as if nobody cares. I would also tell him that yelling and arguing with your group members are not healthy group skills....
