4-2 Journal: Do You Embrace Change? Jessica Waterfield Southern New Hampshire University

When companies think about change, it can be a very controversial topic. Change can significantly impact some organizations that could resist or have trouble adapting. This is mainly due to not wanting to take risks or not looking outside the box and seeing the bigger picture. These companies would then miss many different opportunities. Organizational culture can affect the change in the way companies operate. Most businesses in the United States still use and follow the traditional business guidelines that have been around for decades. However, with today's generation, change is, in fact, something these companies need the most. As a result, culture can help break down barriers between these divided teams, and it can direct decision-making and enhance the overall workflow. I once worked in the foodservice industry and have first handily seen several changes in management and changes in staff members over the years. Policies and procedures have also changed. I have had to work under five different food service directors in the ten years and have trained way too many other co-workers. Each came with their game plan as to how they wanted to run the kitchen. I have no fear of being under new leadership, or these changes, which I know is out of my control, so why get upset over it. However, I have experienced co-workers who were not so open to the changes that came with them. They were comfortable and perfectly fine with what was familiar to them; they hated change. As for me, I have always been open-minded to change because I knew that new ideas would be introduced that maybe could help me with my skills in the kitchen. Sometimes change is good; others have that mindset that why fix it if it's not broken. Some of the foodservice directors made it miserable, and some were very beneficial with these motives. Things need to change to keep the world revolving, without these changes; companies would never grow/expand.
