Foundations of Business I -- BUSN 101 Honors/Global Classroom Fall 2017 (DLGC) Course Sequence Outcomes The BUSN101/102 course sequence is designed to provide incoming LeBow College of Business students with an understanding of the nature of business. At the end of freshman year, students should have a strong desire to know more and have an understanding of what it takes to be a successful business leader. This course is a sequential four credit course meeting fall and winter terms. As a result of this course, students will:  Describe the roles of the functional areas of  Demonstrate an ability to communicate through business (accounting, finance, marketing, etc.) listening, and in oral and written assignments  Acquire fundamental knowledge of how  Develop skills such as problem solving, business disciplines contribute to business success presentation & business writing skills, critical  Discover potential programs of study and careers thinking, teamwork and leadership in business through class activities and readings  Utilize personal assessment and team tools to identify and reflect on skill development, and  Gain direct experience in an international work develop a career profile and plan environment through global teams and projects  Develop career planning materials through  Learn and demonstrate an ability to function online presence and networking events effectively in teams (including international) The GLC Section of the BUSN101 course will follow the basic guidelines of the general freshmen course. It will be expanded, however, integrating and applying overall business knowledge, using field trips, faculty and professional speakers, as well as added and enhanced assignments and examinations. Students are required to provide full participation, and are therefore expected to thoroughly read and study each topic and be prepared for class discussion. Revisions to the syllabus may be announced. This section will also work in conjunction with an GC (global classroom) Honors section of the course of certain projects in a global classroom environment. Materials

Nickels, William G., McHugh, James, and McHugh, Susan. Understanding Business, 11th Edition (including Connect LearnSmart). McGraw Hill. Students will also use material from Ennea International. All materials are used in BUSN 101 & 102. Additional materials and class fees may be added during the term.

Grading

A written description of the assignments is on page 2 of the syllabus. The following allocates the points to each assignment. Due dates are noted on the section schedule.
