Summary

Information to prepare for an interview with Capsule, the online pharmacy company...

Description

The Capsule vision: - Providing patients with a “peace of mind” knowing their healthcare is looked after - Anticipating questions about insurance coverage - Reminding patients about refills - Calling doctor to verify interactions and delivering medications to your door Weaknesses of “brick and mortar” pharmacies: - Medications may be out of stock - Long waiting times - Opaque prices- sellers hide lower prices at which merchandise is sold - Lack of personalized and private advice and medication guidance - Mail-order pharmacies - aren’t readily accessible and do not offer medication guidance from a trusted pharmacist Capsule Strengths: - Huge potential to grow - in 2017 only 1% of revenue from the pharmacy industry was generated online - Free same-day delivery of medications and access to a team of pharmacists via text, email, or phone - Capsule doesn’t charge consumers more than what the medication actually costs - Users are six times more likely to consult with a pharmacist when it's over the phone (text) compared to in person - Supply is constantly managed to ensure refills are in stock - Proactive follow-ups with patients to make sure they are taking medication properly Questions that I have: - What would my position entail in this organization? Would I be working remotely or in the Capsule store? - The geriatric population makes up a large amount of pharmacy patients across the nation. Since the elderly are often not tech savvy, how would Capsule accommodate these types of patients and encourage them to use Capsule instead of going to their physical pharmacy? - Does the Capsule app offer purchases of over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements or vitamins? - With offering free delivery and the lowest possible prices on medication, how does Capsule generate revenue? - In your experience, how could I get the most out of my time here during the internship? Interview questions: - Why our company? - Personally, I believe that what you are building here at Capsule is special and will revolutionize the pharmaceutical industry, if it hasn’t already. It is clear to me that this is a company that stays committed to exemplifying the core values of the pharmacist profession, which includes making the quality of care and satisfaction

of the patient a number one priority, and by offering amenities like free same-day delivery and price transparency, Capsule does just that. I’ve watched numerous videos of the CEO, Mr. Kinariwala, detailing his vision for Capsule and I feel there is a lot of potential for me to grow at this company and to help this company grow as well. I believe that there is a wealth of experience waiting for me at Capsule, and if given the opportunity I am confident that I can develop the necessary work skills and values that will help me excel in my future career. Tell me a bit about yourself? - Currently a 3rd year pharmacy student at St. John’s blah blah blah - I am an enthusiastic person who has a genuine desire to develop the skills and qualities that are necessary for me to have a successful career and future in pharmacy. I am someone who always needs to be active, whether it is physically or mentally, because I understand that in order to achieve what you want in life, you cannot just sit around and wait for things to happen. I pride myself on my willingness to work hard and learn from the people around me so that I can build a foundation for a successful career. - Talk about Pop’s mom- she was a pharmacist and I never met her What would you do if you came across a challenge? - My answer to this question depends on whether it is a personal challenge or a work-related challenge. If I happen to come across a challenge at work, I would gather around a group of co-workers and work together with them to find a solution, because in my experience I have found that multiple minds working towards a common goal is better than one. If the challenge is in my personal life, I find that it is better to always slow things down and assess the situation cautiously without making an impulsive decision. Oftentimes, when we are faced with a problem in our lives we tend to get angry or frustrated and make decisions that are fueled by emotion. That is why I think it is important to take a moment and truly think about each outcome before trying to overcome a challenge. What are your strengths and weaknesses? - My main weakness is that I tend to overthink my actions at times, and I would say this stems from spending too much time on little details with the desire to execute tasks in a perfect manner, which I know is not always possible. I assure you, however, that I am learning to trust myself and my work more often while limiting the second-guessing in my mind. - My strengths include that I am self-motivated and committed to working hard when presented with a goal that I yearn to achieve. I also have a natural passion for continuous learning and an ability to adapt to any situation I am placed in. How would your friends describe you in three words? - Loyal, hardworking, and ambitious. What is the most relevant experience that you have? What did you gain from this experience? - First Health Specialty Pharmacy in Harlem - assisting the team of pharmacists with whatever task was at hand, including filling prior authorization forms for patients, compounding medications and preparing prescription labels.

Communicating with patients over the phone to remind them of refills, communicating with doctor offices What is a challenge that you faced and how did you overcome it? - Probably the largest challenge that I can recall facing recently would be attending online school as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, I know you are probably thinking that attending online school was more of a blessing than a challenge, but in fact I found it difficult to reignite the same passion for learning I’ve had throughout my whole life when taking classes at home. The main reason for this is that it is hard to find interest in something that is taught to you through a computer screen, especially since I am someone who likes to learn visually and through experience. In order to overcome this challenge, I set aside time every week to go over what I had learned in my classes and ensure that I was staying on track. I also sought out new friends and formed study groups, which I found beneficial in encouraging myself to learn and expand on the material. Where do you see yourself after you graduate and complete this internship? - To be completely honest, I would very much be open to working for Capsule after graduating and completing my internship. I think that this is a forward-thinking and innovative company that clearly has high standards and ambitious plans for the future, and I would be excited to be a part of that future. I didn’t apply to this internship solely for the purpose of having something to put on my resume and to keep busy this summer, I applied because I believe in this company’s vision and its ability to completely change the pharmaceutical industry. What do you want to get from this experience? - If given the opportunity to work at Capsule, I would first and foremost want to contribute to the company by being productive and helping the team whenever possible. I also want to learn more about how this industry works and what is needed to make Capsule as successful as it can be. I believe that by surrounding myself with dedicated and experienced professionals, I can tap into my full potential and lay the blueprint for a successful career as a pharmacist. What would you contribute to our company? - Reliable, responsible, assistance to team of pharmacists with daily duties - Encourage a positive working environment and collaboration among colleagues - Creative thinker - develop ideas to promote the success of the company What do you consider to be the most important requirements for this job? - Someone who is reliable, hardworking, and able to work well with others to encourage a positive working environment - Someone who can work well under pressure and isn’t fazed by having to take on multiple tasks at once Tell me about how you worked effectively under pressure. - During finals week of the spring semester in 2020, I was under a lot of pressure to do well on my finals and transition into my summer internship at the same time. I had about 3 finals on three consecutive days, and I was taking some of the most difficult classes of my academic career (biochemistry, anatomy). I had to study for those tests while preparing for my internship which started at the end of

that week. At work (for challenge/under pressure) - one day at the pharmacy we were understaffed and missing two key employees, one of them was sick and the other was away for personal reasons; i was given the responsibility of handling all of the compounding that day, which made feel overwhelmed at first because normally my role there would be to work with the pharmacists rather than be on my own. We received around 100 scripts that day and I got through the day by staying organized and I wasn’t afraid to ask my co-workers for help when I needed it. When was a time you were taken out of your comfort zone at work? - One day during my internship at the pharmacy, I had a patient on the phone who was very frustrated because she didn’t receive her HIV medication in time. I tried to explain to her that we were waiting for our delivery driver who was running late, but she refused to comply and said that she didn’t have time to wait because she had a flight later that day. She started calling me names that I don’t feel comfortable sharing right now, and definitely shook me up a bit and took me out of my comfort zone. To resolve the issue, I actually ended up offering to deliver the medication myself to satisfy the patient’s needs, and with the permission of my supervisor that’s what I did. -
