1) Which of Horney’s neurotic trends does Samara exhibit The neurotic trend Samara seems to be demonstrating is compliance. I think this because she demonstrates what's needed for this trend: the need for affection, approval and need for a partner. Due to her Middle Eastern upbringing, Samara was raised with the mindset of having to find a husband which has been her focus. She is constantly seeking affection in many partners as well as seeking their approval. 2) Which of Horney’s neurotic needs does Samara demonstrate? Find an example fro her case The neurotic trends Samara seems to be demonstrating are the need for affection & approval, partnership and perfection . I think this because Samara desires to acquire affection, approval and partnership within her relationships. She is described as always submissive in her romantic relationships, always putting her partner first and putting her needs aside so she can attend to theirs. She is always seeking their approval in how attentive she is to their needs along with their affection. She is also always seeking out partners, she dislikes being single so she will seek out a new partner not long after a break-up. This is due to her cultural upbringing, getting married is an important part of her culture and was taught this since young. 3) How could Horney’s theory explain the discrepancy among Samara’s idealized, real and despised self-images? Samara's neurotic behavior can be explained by her cultural upbringing. Samara was raised in a traditional Middle Eastern household where the idea of getting married right away was ingrained since she was a young age. She has become panicked into wanting to marry so soon because she is already thirty-five years old and believes she is running out of time....
