I believe all of us have heard about Edward Snowden. Currently, Snowden is known as a whistleblower for the US government because he released several confidential documents related to the US government surveillance program. During his years of IT work with the NSA and other agencies he has discovered several government programs that targeted the people of America and other countries. Snowden has collected a huge amount of information from all the agencies without any authorization and when he compiled all the documents, he left the NSA and fled to Hong Kong where he met the journalist from The Guardian. Snowden has willing to sacrifice his life to save privacy, internet freedom, and basic liberties for people around the world. Snowden has believed in utilitarianism ethics because Snowden focused on the end-based theory which focuses on the result instead of the process. Snowden was aware of the consequences of accessing and manipulating the data without authorization, but he still disclosed confidential information for the good of everyone. According to me and what I concluded from Edward Snowden’s case that he confronted the moral dilemmas where he had situations to either save his career or saving the privacy of the people on the internet. Of course, Snowden chose the second option because it was beneficial to most people and he thought that everyone should be aware of any issue regarding their privacy. The story of Edward Snowden has not just influenced the people, but it also made a difference in the movie industry. By the means of the movie Snowden, it is tried to convey the message to spread awareness among the people regarding cyber issues that may cause harm to society. Snowden’s movie ranked at the top on Netflix for two weeks which signifies that people are willing to learn about information age ethical issues. This also brings the curiosity among the people to know and learn about the transparency of their information on the internet. Movie Snowden questioned the morality issue which is based on the system of rules for guiding human conduct, and principles for evaluating rules of conduct. I believe that Edward Snowden highlighted and increased the concern of privacy among the people. After the incident, everyone questioned their privacy on the internet, they became aware of all the elements of the internet such as cookies, browsing history, information on social media platforms, etc. Edward Snowden has raised the consequence-based ethical questions in the citizen of the US and all around the world. People around the world started to argue that they are inclined to deliberate based on the principle governed by higher authorities that guide their behavior.

2

In conclusion, we can describe that ethics play a huge role in the manipulation of privacy on the internet. That is why privacy became a huge factor for all organizations that intends to store user data. Edward Snowden had to follow the code of conduct for government agencies but he still believed in ethical responsibility for the citizen of users.
