Nwosu Y1417130047 Executive Summary This case study would be focused on some of the issues facing the Hershey Food Company and their workable solutions that can be implemented to achieve the improvement of products, environment and increase sales. The Hershey company is one of many entrepreneur spirits founded company. With its history dating back to 1893, when the founder Milton Hershey who has had an early exposure to the process of making candy. After a successful apprenticeship under the candy maker Joe Royer, Milton developed a keen interest to own his own candy manufacturing company. Beginning with chocolate coated caramels, the Hershey Chocolate Company was founded in 1894. Hershey was founded with mission to be a focused food company in North America. Hershey under this mission focuses on its fundamental values which reflects in the creation of their products, promotion of healthy living, consumer conscious feedback for product improvement, maintaining high ethical conduct and focused on a business approach that is result oriented. Among the strengths of Hershey include: its transition from a one product per plant company to a corporation worth over $4billion in addition to different chocolate brands its brand name and reliable image Owning the largest chocolate factory in the United States Its strong partnership with major brands Its philanthropic activities But in recent times, Hershey has to deal with major giant brands such as Nestle who has a strong international presence than Hershey which is more focused on national market. Its global market share is very low, looking on the bright side, its dark chocolate brand has the potential to attract high sales as its content are sugar free and healthy. Some of the major Issues facing the Hershey Company include: Child labour concerns in the cocoa farms High cost of waste disposal Health concerns for chocolate consumers Lack of technological advancements for local farmers Some of the theories that would be used in this case study include PEST analysis and Marketing strategies that would provide closure to the issues above as well as strategic solutions that would lead to general improvement of the company and its products. Problems Child Labour The issue of child labour in the cocoa exporting countries has drawn increasing concern especially in the western regions of Africa. As a political/ legal issue challenging the chocolate manufacturing industry, producers may not be permitted to distribute their chocolates as the practice to which the product was obtained is completely against the fundamental human rights of the United nations and other world bodies that prohibit child labour....
