Description

Cell Cycle Circle This activity can be utilized to either introduce the Cell Cycle, or as a review. It can be a great review for the entire chapter and serves as a great resource throughout the whole year. Often students keep it for use in college. Cell Cycle Circle- Teacher Directions 1) Cut several circle templates from a file folder or cardstock. Make it as large as possible to utilize half of the file folder. This will allow you to get two Cell Cycle Circles from each folder. 2) Distribute the student directions and examples. 3) Depending on the level of your students, you can provide them with pictures of the different phases of the cell cycle to color and glue on their own Cell Cycle Circle. You can also provide page numbers in the book, or make it more open ended.

Cell Cycle Circle- Student Directions 1) Use the template and cut out a circle from the file folder 2) Divide one side into four equal sections. This will represent the entire Cell Cycle. Divide one of the sections into 5 smaller sections. These will represent the 4 phases of mitosis and cytokinesis (see example- Side 1) 3) One Side 1, label the 3 larger sections G1, S, and G2. The small strip around the outside should be labeled Interphase. Label the 5 smaller sections Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase and Cytokinesis. Inside each section provide a brief description of what occurs in each phase. Barnhart Biology 2016

4) Flip the circle over and divide it into four equal sections. These will represent the 4 phases of mitosis in depth. (see example- Side 2). Label these sections Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase. Draw a picture of a cell in each phase, indicating what the chromosomes look like. Provide a detailed description of what occurs in each phase. Be neat and add color.
