Memories are malleable, but not easy to implant a relevant false memory Ceci and Bruck – children aren’t especially vulnerable to false memories, but interview techniques that can harm them will work but also for everyone else Schemas – knowledge structures we have stored in our memories o storage of information depends on our interpretation of that info o guide our attention to relevant info and help us shape our experiences o DRM paradigm – uses gists to make person remember critical word after reading a list of related words Source monitoring – can’t remember if from dream/other experience or if it really happened Flashbulb memories – memories so vivid that people appear to recount them in remarkable, even photographic detail o Just like other memories, but more intense o Can be changed Post event misinformation – very similar to source monitoring errors.
