Chapter 7

3 months had passed and the Count of Monte Cristo went to Albert's house to visit Albert and all his friends. There, Albert told all of them how The Count had saved his life from Luigi Vampa. That story impressed all Albert's friends. The Count of Monte Cristo also learnt that Albert was marrying Eugenie Danglars and that the only reason for that marriage was the money the Danglars had. Then, Albert's friends left and it was the time to meet Albert's parents. The first one to meet the Count was Fernand, who didn't recognize Edmond Dantes. After that, Mercedes met the Count. Apparently, she did recognize Dantes because she shuddered when she saw The Count. Life in Paris for the Count of the Monte Cristo was elegant and expensive. He sent his steward, Bertuccio, to buy 2 houses. One in the city and another outside Paris, in Auteuil. Bertuccio had a secret story in that house, and he told that story to the Count. Years ago, Bertuccio had tried to kill Villefort. Villefort had a lover and a son. Apparently, Villefort had tried to kill his son by burying him in a wooden box. Fortunately for the baby, Bertuccio, after trying to kill Villefort, saved that baby and adopted him. His name was Benedetto and he was a wicked man, just like his father. Benedetto even burnt Bertuccio's house and took all his money After hearing Bertuccio's story, The Count told him that Villefort was still alive and promised that Villefort would be punished one day. Then, The Count left and went to visit Maximilien Morrel, who was living with his sister and her husband. Once there, The Count would realize how grateful they were to Sinbad the sailor and to Lord Wilmore. He also realized that his friend Morrel had recognized him as Edmond Dantes when he was pretending to be Lord Wilmore. Morrel, before dying, had told his son that Edmond Dantes had saved them from all their debts....
