Character Of Ikemefuna Ikemefuna was a fifteen-year-old boy who lived in the neighboring village, Mbaino. He was sent to Umuofia as a sacrifice, when one of the female villager was killed by a Mbaino man. Okonkwo took him in and raised him. Ikemefuna became like a son to him, even more so than his own son, Nwoye. Ikemefuna was talented, hardworking, and a great hunter. Okonkwo grew to admire him. He began to realize that Ikemefuna was a good role model for Nwoye, because he was teaching him to be more of a man. Ikemefuna had a huge impact on the novel. He was a role model for the kids in the village, and he was admired by Okonkwo. The death of him brought out a side of Okonkwo that nobody would have ever expected. All in all, Ikemefuna influenced many of the events that occurred in the book while he was alive, and after he was killed. As Ikemefuna was being taken out to the woods to be slaughtered, he did not have any fear, because he considered himself to be Okonkwo’s true son because of the bond of affection they share. Okonkwo despite of his love and affection towards Ikemefuna he involved himself in the murder of him.Even at the last moment, Ikemefuna cries out “My father, they have killed me” thus pleading for Okonkwo’s aid. But Okonkwo, to prove that he is not emotionally bound to him, draws his machete and kills the boy. The relation between Ikemefuna and Okonkwo different from all the other relationships Okonkwo had with his other children. Okonkwo was very fond of Ikemefuna and he thought very highly of him. Not being one to show affection or weakness, Okonkwo went through a time of despair after he personally had to killed Ikemefuna....
