About the characteristics of life and taxonomy....
Chapter 1 Characteristics of Life: 1)Living things are organized: Level of biological organization range from atom to biosphere. 2)life requires materials and energy: Metabolism is the chemical reactions that occurs in a cell. Photosynthesis is the process that converts solar energy in to the chemical energy of carbohydrates. 3)Living things maintain homeostatis: Homeostatis is the maintenance of internal environment with certain boundaries. 4)Living things respond to stimuli: 5)Living things respond and develop. 6)Living things have adaptations: Adaptations is the modification that makes an organism better able to function in a particular environment. Atom→ molecule→cell→tissue→organ→organ system→organism→species→population→ community→ecosystem→biosphere Atom: smallest unit of an element composed of electron, proton and neutron. Molecule: union of two or more atoms of two or more elements Cell: structural and functional unit of all living beings Tissue: A group of cells with a common structure and function Organ: Composed of tissue functioning together for a specific task Organ system: Composed of several organs working together
Organism: An individual; complex contains organ system Species: A group of similar interbreeding organisms Population: Organisms of the same species in a particular area Community: Interacting populations in a particular area Ecosystem: Community and physical environment Biosphere: Regions of earth crust, water and substance. Taxonomy: The discipline of biology that identifies name, and classifies organisms according to certain rules. Systematics: The study of evolutionary relationships between organisms. Scientific Method: A standard series of steps used in gaining new knowledge through research. Steps of scientific method: 1. Observation 2. Hypothesis 3. Predictions and experiments 4. Data collection with Statistical Analysis...
