FundamentalCanons 1. CivilEngineersshallholdparamountthesafety,healthandwelfareofthepublicandshallstrive tocomplywiththeprinciplesofsustainabledevelopmentintheperformanceoftheirduties. 2. CivilEngineersshallperformservicesonlyinareasoftheircompetence. 3. CivilEngineersshallissuepublicstatementsonlyinanobjectiveandtruthfulmanner. 4. CivilEngineersshallactinprofessionalmattersforeachemployerorclientasfaithfulagentsor trustees,andshallavoidconflictspfinterest. 5. CivilEngineersshallbuildtheirprofessionalreputationonthemeritof theirservicesandshall notcompeteunfairlywithothers. 6. Civil Engineers shall act in such a manner as to uphold and enhance the honor, integrity and dignityofthecivilengineeringprofession. 7. Civil Engineers shall continue their professional development throughout their careers, and shallprovideopportunitiesfortheprofessionaldevelopmentofthosecivilengineersundertheir supervision. 

Canon4.ProfessionalMatters   Avoidallknownorpotentialconflictsofinterestwiththeiremployersorclients Shallnotacceptcompensationsfrommorethanonepartyonthesameproject. Shallnotsolicitoracceptgratuities,directlyorindirectlyfromotherparties. Inpublicservices,acivilengineershallnotparticipateinconsiderationoractionswithrespect toservicessolicitedorprovidedbythem.  Advisetheiremployersorclientswhentheybelieveaprojectwillnotbesuccessful.  Shallnotuseconfidentialinformationasmeansofpersonalprofit.  Shallnotacceptprofessionalemploymentoutsideofregularworkwithouttheknowledgeof employers   Canon5.ProfessionalReputation   Shallnotgive,solicitorreceiveeither,directlyorindirectly,anypoliticalcontribution,gratuityor unlawfulconsideration.  Negotiatecontractsforprofessionalservicesfairly.  Mayrequest,proposeoracceptprofessionalcommissionsonacontingentbasisinwhich professionaljudgmentswouldnotbecompromised.  Shallnotfalsifyorpermitmisinterpretationofacademicorprofessionalqualifications.  Givepropercreditforengineeringworktothosetowhomcreditisdue.  Mayadvertiseprofessionalservicesinawaythatdoesnotcontainmisleadinglanguagesor meanings.  Shallnotmaliciouslyorfalsely,directlyorindirectly,injuretheprofessionalreputationof anotherengineer.   

Shallnotuseequipment,suppliesandofficefacilitieswithouttheconsentoftheiremployers.  Canon6.EnhanceHonor,IntegrityandDignity   Shallnotknowinglyactinamannerwhichwillbederogatorytothehonor,integrityordignityof civilengineeringprofessionorknowinglyengageinbusinessorprofessionalpracticeofa fraudulent,dishonestorunethicalnature.  Canon7.ProfessionalDevelopment   Shouldkeepcurrentintheirspecialtyfields.  Shouldencouragetheirengineeringemployeestobecomeregisteredasearlyaspossible.  Shouldencouragetheirengineeringemployeestoattendandpresentpapersatprofessionaland technicalsocietymeetings  Shallupholdtheprincipleofmutuallysatisfyingrelationshipsbetweenemployersand employees.  
