Delivery Methods: The course is delivered through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous lectures, recordings, discussion, activities and collaborative learning.

Required Textbook: N/A Course Overview: Rationale: COMM1007 covers conventions in reading, summarizing, documenting sources using APA style, forming and evaluating an argument, presenting evidence, assessing credibility of sources, recognizing bias and writing for various audiences and purposes. COMM1007 research outcomes help prepare students for Sem. 3 COMM1147, where they are expected to read and understand evidence-based research, one of the requirements for members of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Course Delivery Methods: The course will have synchronous and asynchronous components. Asynchronous: students will work through the weekly materials (readings and activities) independently. They will be posted on BB each Monday. Synchronous: classes will be held during the times designated for your Course Registration Number (CRN) on your schedule.

Assignments MUST be submitted according to the following instructions:   

On-line through Blackboard (BB); emailed assignments will not be accepted. Late assignments will be penalized 10% per day. Students must inform faculty in advance of deadline if they cannot submit an assignment by the deadline. Permission will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Ensure that you thoroughly understand assignment directions and then proofread your final drafts against the assignment rubric and/or checklist before submitting it. Students are responsible for checking their grades weekly to ensure that they are up to-date. Please allow 2 weeks for assignments to be graded. Assignments can NOT be re-written if students do not follow instructions and/or include all components in the rubric.

Homework:  Read and complete weekly practice activities (Powerpoint lecture and or video, reading and activities) to prepare for weekly classes. These are always directly related to the upcoming graded assignments. Email Communication:  As per the Student Handbook policy, student queries MUST be sent to faculty using GBC EMAIL ACCOUNTS ONLY.  Check GBC email DAILY for class information and check BB grades weekly.  Email etiquette: Please provide a subject line pertaining to reason for email, student first/last name as well as the course name, and day and time of class (I teach multiple classes on the same day).  Ensuring that your GBC email account is functioning properly is as important as being prepared for every class  Allow 24 hours for faculty to respond to email [email protected]  To solve problems accessing gbc email accounts: User ID and password issues can be found at: www.georgebrown.ca/IDM/general_access.aspx#Help. Faculty will:  Respond to email questions within 24 hours (unless otherwise specified or weekend).  Grade work within 2 weeks of submission.  Post homework reading/activities by Friday of each week.
