basics for comment writing...
HOW TO WRITE A PERSONAL COMMENT
Step 1:
Read the task carefully. Is it a general question on the content or just on a particular aspect?
Step 2:
What´s your opinion about the topic? (You can write down keywords on a separate paper.)
Step 3:
Collect material from the text or other sources you talked about in class in order to give proof.
Step 4:
Write a text. Keep strictly to the topic and keep to the following pattern: Introduction: - Presentation of the topic you want to be discussed Main part:
- Presentation of your own opinion - Giving proof with the help of collected material (arguments: pros, cons, examples)
Conclusion : - Short repetition of your statement from the beginning (in other words) and a very brief summary of the most important arguments (pointing out the consequences of your position) Attention! Lots of pupils leave out this part. Don´t do that because one gets the impression that your own arguments aren´t very convincing.
Step 5:
Check the correctness of your language while reading sentence by sentence very carefully. (Check especially on: tenses, word order, use of –s in 3rd person singular present, definite articles, gerund or infinitive.)
Step 6:
Use different phrases in order to vary your language. 1. Author´s point of view The author hopes to convince the reader that….. The author presents convincing arguments to support the… The author tends to exaggerate…
