Description

The Communist Manifesto Study Questions Who was Karl Marx? Friedrich Engels? In what sense were they reacting to the industrial revolution? Karl Marx was a German philosopher, economist and sociologist who comprised the Communist theory with a German philosopher and theorist, Friedrich Engels. Both philosophers co-wrote the Manifesto of the Communist Party (Communist Manifesto), a book. Communism is the political theory in which all property and wealth is owned in a classless society by all the members of the society. During the Industrial Revolution the government was in control of the economy, so Marx encouraged the lower class to start riots to free themselves from poverty. Marx thought the Industrial Revolution was leading to the development of a primitive economy. What are some of the basic doctrines of Marxism? Along with Karl Marx’s theory of communism, Marxists believe in the idea of alienated labor, meaning that in production, workers become more alienated as the work they are completing becomes more alienated. They also believe in dialectical materialism, the theory explaining history as a result of material forces and contradiction, and that there is a natural process separating feudalism from capitalism and communism. Additionally, they believed in class struggle, and that capitalism created inequality by little distribution of wealth. To what extent has history conformed to the predictions contained in the Manifesto? With which of the aims of the Communist party, as stated in the Manifesto, do you agree? With which do you disagree? Who precisely are the bourgeoisie? The proletariat? What do the authors mean that history is the history of class struggle? What has the role of the bourgeoisie been in history? What has been the role of the proletariat? Who are the communists and what do they stand for? Why do the communists argue as they do about the nature of property? What is the nature of wage-labor? Why do the communists think private property has already been abolished? How do communists describe the 19th century family? What is the communist view of nations and nationalism? What is the relationship of the communists to other opposition parties in Europe? To what extent has history conformed to the predictions contained in the Manifesto? What about nationalism? Should Marx be criticized for underestimating the power of this political “ism”? How did Marx overplay the internationalism of the workers? Why have Marxist revolts generally taken place in non-industrialized societies?...
