Periodic Table Culminating Task Name: ___________________________________ You are a member of an elite space research and exploration team that has been asked to land on Lempatica, a comet that passes through our solar system once every 64 years. While on Lempatica your team is tasked with determining the characteristics of the elements found on the comet, and developing a periodic table specific to those elements. The data that was collected is given below. The information given is not in a specific order, thus the statements must be reread in order to place the elements on the periodic table. Note: This is an activity that is fictional in nature, but will use your knowledge of our own periodic table to complete the assignment. These elements do not exist, so do not look on your PT to find them. Your team discovered 15 elements on the comet, and were assigned symbols according to the letters of the alphabet in order that they were found (a-o). The elements can be organized into a table with 5 columns and 3 rows. Your team developed the table with our periodic table in mind, where families of elements are in similar positions given that there are much fewer elements. Observations a) b) c) d) e) f) g) h) i) j) k)
G is the most electronegative element L has the largest atomic radius N has 2 orbit/shells elements K, D, and I are very un-reactive, with I being the least reactive of all ions of B, and M have a -1 valence (charge) F has one more proton than L O and N are soft, reactive metals F, A, and C form a family of metals with element C having an atomic mass between F and A the trend in ionization energy increases from H to B to K along the same period B has a larger electron affinity than M E has a larger radius than J
