14 October 2019 The Heavy Burden of Obesity Thousands are dying from illnesses related to obesity. According to Healthline, “Obesity is linked to more than 60 chronic diseases,” such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and the list goes on. Americans have the highest risk of becoming overweight and therefore are at a higher risk of death. Granted that many juveniles are not getting sufficient exercise, it is likely that they are destroying their bodies by eating cheap, easy access, and processed foods which are consumed by everyday people. America has the largest number of fast food chains across the solar system. To add on, countless adults live unhealthy lifestyles. This influences their children and prompt kids to follow their same footsteps. This never ending cycle of obesity continues and causes more future complications. I propose that we implement the solution I have to prevent more from dying from obesity related deaths and make them become useful for the public. In order to put an end to this vicious cycle, I suggest that putting a limitation on the population’s Standard of Weights and Measures at a BMI of 24.9 will keep our people in good conditions. In the case that individuals exceed 24.9, it will be acknowledged as unlawful and they will be admitted to detention camps. To be qualified for this prestigious camp, you must have a BMI of at least 25. In these said camps, individuals are required to become labor workers. They are obligated to work in construction, farming, or in factories. As punishment, assuming that problems are bound to occur, authorities will discipline the overweight campers to run on treadmills to create electricity to power our society. This will benefit everyone if we are willing to treat them like the rats that they are.

2 Carrying out this solution will lead to a compromise for our nation by making corpulent individuals shed some skin and obtaining free labor. Some may say that my suggestions are extreme yet the solutions that they provided will not seek any results. Lowering the cost of healthy foods in an attempt to make it cheaper and more appealing to consumers will cripple our economy. This will also not guarantee that people will purchase them. Assuming that thousands are already comfortable with their unhealthy lifestyles, they would prefer eating whatever they desire to their heart’s content. An attempt to encourage physical activity will be useless. Only encouraging people will not seek result, we must push and pressure them to do so. Convincing the public to take precious time out of the day to waste on exercising will be helpless and exhausting. By executing my plan of instituting camps for the corpulence I am doing them a massive favor. I am single-handedly saving the world from this heavy burden of obesity! This is a mutually beneficial situation, because those suffering from poor health, due to the lack of exercise, will be able to lose weight and their provided efforts will assist the working class. People will lower their BMI and once they reach 24.9 and below, they will be released back. Our world will go round again! Others may say that the corpulent camps are unreasonable, but simply lowering the price for organic, pesticide-free, non GMO, and healthy products will not lift the heavy burden of obesity. People are unwilling to take the time to go to grocery stores, however those who attempt by using modern order and delivery apps still do not have time to prepare and eat. According to Eddie Yoon’s article on Harvard Business Reviews, “only 10% of Americans love cooking.” The 90% of Americans either don’t enjoy cooking or don’t have an interest in cooking. Assuming

3 that 90% of Americans don’t prepare or serve food at home, this means that they are spending money at restaurants but mainly at various fast food chains. If our society continues to allow people to have complete freedom they will simply destroy themselves. To add on, any encouragement towards physical activity will be disfavored by the population. They come up with excuses such as claiming that they do not have free time to maintain their health. To put it in a transparent light, they have no motivation nor care about their well-being. People who die from obesity related deaths do not live their lives to the fullest. A handful of people die early, which takes away time to experience new things. In 2011, Rob Eissler, a former Texas Representative, stated that “34 children die from obesity every hour.” There are 8,760 hours in a year. Approximately 297,840 kids die due to obesity every year. Which means that almost 300,000 children don’t graduate high school, don’t get married, and don’t have grandchildren. I challenge others to create their own proposal to settle down the obesity pandemic. I will submissively accept any other proposal if it advises a better effective solution. As a healthy individual from a strong family, I will not receive any personal gain from this proposal. I am genuinely worried about the lives of this nation. I do not wish a short life for anyone and expect many to live a long happy life. The purpose of this proposal is to save the public from dying from obesity....
