Description

The Evocative Power of Projective Techniques for the Elicitation of Meaning

Relevance This journal has showed the manificent way of eliciting subconscious feelings and thoughts in an individual for the use qualitative research. Many has used projective techniques either in assessment or in therapy, however, it was tackled here the effectiveness of gathering necessary information with different cases of individual. Through these techniques, deeper meanings were interpreted and may support the reliability or consistency of answers of the individal or may give a consequential interpretation that would aid the researchers. The use of projection has been a way to see the unconscious desires or a particular answer to a problem. Even market research was tackled as consumer researchers were using this technique to gain more customers in a specific product. One specific example they have exhibited was the usage of projective technique in building a significant logo for their 6 year project. This scenario conveyed that projective technique can also be used in organizational tasks like drafting a symbolic representation of a project. This indicates that we should still maximize our capabilities in discovering the beauty of projection not only to elicit painful past or unfinished issues but also in designing an art that would help develop. In this journal, it revealed how one discovery can be useful in many aspects of our daily living. Limitation One of the limitations of this article is that projections on creating their project logo could be influence by other ideas rather than their unconscious or subconscious mind. Also, their environment might affected them during their activitites. This is also one of the major concerns in doing a plain projection vs integrative projection wherein the latter is highly influence by the environment or any extraneous variable. Recommendation This article may improve more by showing further research in other countries that put emphasis on the utilization of projective techniques in different areas of our life. Further research using projective techniques on business, different organizations such as humanitarian services, private companies, and government institutions, relationships, and other relevant issues may show how powerful can projection evoke feelings and behaviors we don’t yet understand. A Review on Projective Techniques Applied on Social Science Research

Relevance The journal has exhibited the significance of projective techniques in market and consumer research. It also tackled the importance of projection on determining the subconscious feelings of the customers which in return may suggest their needs and desires that would aid a better market research. How ironic that some academician doubt this powerful tool while the business strategists utilize its full potential to provide what their customers want. My personal experience tells me that survey is still being done to rate foods in some of the known restaurants in manila. In contrast, this article express the effectiveness of using a subjective technique that would identify its market. Not only it showed the relevance of projection, it also paved way on the idea that it could only be a reflection of the social and cultural awareness. It might be true however, the idea of utilizing projection in consumer’s research supports the studies done before in clinical and counseling psychology. Moreover, the projection that different individuals reveal would indicate an integration of his or her experiences, beliefs, subconscious feelings, and culture. This showed its impact not on a specific research but in totality of psychology. This further advances the studies in our field as a whole which is applicable to anyone either with or without dysfunction. Limitation The journal is not presented without any limitations. The journal tackle general information and has not exhibited specific cases or literature that would support its claims on the effectiveness of projection in consumer’s research. Secondly, it does not showed recent references that would make the journal more updated. Also, it failed to showed recent significant results using projection in business or consumer research. Recommendation It is highly recommended to use recent references that would support claims in this research and that would engage in an intelligent discussion on the effectitiveness of projective techniques on other fields of research and psychology. Furthermore, the presence of literatures, cases and a specific result utilizing a projective techinique in a consumer research will strengthen its claims. Further research that engaged on the usage of projection on business research and other field of science may widen the scope and relevance of psychology as a theory and a practice. Reference: Das, G. Clinical Instruction on Projective Techniques in the USA: A Review of Academic Training Settings 1995-2014 Relevance This journal has shed some light on the current situation of projective tests in graduate level institutions. The usage decline on academic and internship intruction and training on projective assessment has been one of the issues that should be addressed. Due to younger faculty focusing on objective tests, concerns on lack of reimbursement, issue on how will it affect managed care, the need for professional specialization, and the everlasting concern on psychometric limitations teaching projective tests and techniques became a problem. The critical data that could be gather in a projective test was deemphasize. Through this journal, we have learned the curent status and may aid future researchers to find effective solutions on how to effectively address the bifurcation between objective test and projective tests. Is there a need to deemphasize the relevance of both tests? I believe that these two could work together to get the most reliable and valid data from our clients. The journal also highlighted the desire of the clinical students to enroll in these advanced coursework on projective assessment and techniques. This would not only make someone more competent but more credible in providing data to the client. There must be a solution that would equip students starting from the undergraduate course on the utilization of these tools for them to appreciate the power of the projective tools with the integration of objective tests as this will produce the most accurate data we desire. Limitation One of the limitations of this journal is that it only shows the current situation of projective test in graduate level institutions. The was no elaboration done on how we could address this scenario. Furthermore, there was no country-based research evident on projective tests usage and if it is being taught separately in graduate school. The was also no emphasis on how effective it was in different real scenarios that might provide further researchers basis in doing future studies. Recommendation Further research may improve this study by doing a qualitative research on the effectiveness of projective test in different countries by doing survey on clinical practicioners and faculty who are teaching advance coursework relating to this. Also, doing a separate interview with different students in graduate but also undergraduate school may provide as idea on why it is desired and what is their point of view on expanding the course to projective assessment and techniques. Lastly, it would also improve the practice if it will be seen in a larger scale not only in a clinical aspect as other studies showed its significance with other field aside from psychology, like business and marketing.
