Instructions to students NB: You must read the instructions below carefully and adhere to them strictly whilst completing your coursework. • For Synergy coursework, produce assignment in response to the assessment task detailed below. • In the report, every page must be numbered in the footer. In the header of every page you must put your student number only. Do not include your name in the assignment – your coursework will be marked anonymously. • All figures and tables must be numbered and have a title. The number and title should be present above the tables and beneath the figures. • Do not cite or reference lecture notes in your coursework. • Do not use direct quotations in written work. Quotations do not belong in academic scientific writing. • You should use MMU Harvard referencing style • The assignment should be divided into sections as detailed in the assessment task below.

Assessment objective/rationale Students will learn skills to effectively improve their employability and be able to critically reflect on their personal progress. This will involve the summation of many differing skills required to effectively transition from education to industry and develop the relevant competencies required in their chosen industry to become a successful professional.

For Nutritional Science students your Professional Portfolio this will consist of 1. Your CV 2. A cover letter 3. A 1500 word Reflective Essay: This should include a reflection on each of the element of your portfolio, i.e.

Your Career Search: What did you learn from exploring possible careers/industry placements? Describe any problems you had with deciding your possible career/industry placement. Identify any questions you have with relation to your chosen career path/industry. How might you find answers to these questions? Your CV: What did you learn from producing your CV? Describe any problems you had with it. Identify the areas you would like to improve upon. How would you do this? You should refer to academic theory to support your reflections. For example, Gibbs' (1998) reflective cycle guides us through six stages of reflection, Kolb’s Learning Cycle (1984) is often used to guide systematic reflection and there is a wide body of literature, based on reflective practice, that you could draw upon to support your work.

A professional cover letter and an exercise diet plan = 500 words In your seminars you will assigned a ‘client’ for whom you have to design a 4 week exercise plan. Within you portfolio you need to submit your Exercise Plan with a professional covering letter to explain clearly what you would like your client to do.
