Description

Topic 2 Review This topic review is a tool designed to prepare students for the Topic 2 Quiz. Instructors will grade the topic review for completion. Save the topic review to your computer and submit when complete. When completing this review, answers should be in your own words or quoted with quotation marks and be drawn from one of the course readings (textbook and overview referenced below), or other sources listed in the syllabus. Outside sources, including internet sites, are not acceptable. When quoting and paraphrasing, include all authors' last names for citations that have multiple authors. For quoted citations, be sure to include the page or paragraph number(s). The quiz will be graded for accuracy, so take time to seek the correct answers for this topic review before you attempt the quiz. Once you start the quiz, do not exit the quiz until the entire quiz is completed. Exiting out of the quiz before it is complete may result in a zero grade. Please type your answers below each question. 1. List the three Christian views of creation, as given in the overview, and a brief description of each. The Young Earth – the earth and all His creations were made in 6 24-hour days. The Old Earth – the earth and His creations were made over a longer span of time, as to explain the age of the earth determined by science. Life appeared as God gave the command. The Theist Evolution – Life evolved as determined by science, but God empowered and directed what happened. 2. The concept that humanity is created in the image of God may refer to a number of things. List four things: two covered in the textbook and two covered in the overview. Overview: “You were created with both a spirit and a body, indicating that this is your natural state,” (Topic 2 Overview, 2017, p. 3). Overview: “Christians have been called to an even higher purpose—to be conformed to the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29)—that is, restored to the perfect image of God; a process sometimes called sanctification that takes a lifetime,” (Topic 2 Overview, 2017, p. 3). Textbook: “Humanity serves as God’s representatives who are created in his image,” (Diffey, 2015, The Trinity in creation section, pp. 6). Textbook: “The nature of the garden, then, is to be seen as the place where God dwelled among his people that he created in his image,” (Diffey, 2015, The Garden, pp. 2).

6. List three reasons for seeing humanity as the pinnacle of God’s creation. 1. Humanity is created in the image of God. 2. The period when God created us, and on the 6th day it was very good. 3. God gave us human bodies. 7. How does the textbook describe the garden of Eden? The garden of Eden was a temple like space for God. The garden of Eden was good and orderly. The garden of Eden was a place that God dwelled with his people. 8. How would you describe the nature of work God gave to Adam in the garden of Eden? Adam would be described as a biologist and a farmer. It was his job to “work and keep it” (Genesis 2:15), as well as name all the animals. (Topic 2 Overview, 2017, p. 3). 9. Summarize Proverbs 9:10. Being fearful of God’s wrath is prudent, and it is easier to learn with a faithful mind. 10. Summarize God’s statements in Genesis 2:16-18. He told Adam that he could eat any fruit except from the tree of knowledge and good and evil. He also told Adam in Genesis 2:18 that it was not good for him to be alone and would make him a helper. 11. What does the textbook say about the involvement of the Trinity in creation?

2

All three points of the Trinity were involved in the creation. God oversaw everything that was being made. All things were made and held together through Jesus. The Spirit was the life-giver of the living God. (Diffey, 2015, The Trinity in creation section, pp. 6). 12. List the four basic “acts” of the overarching biblical story. Creation – God created all things. Fall – “The fall of humanity into sin,” (Diffey, 2015, Introduction to the Christian worldview section, pp. 2). Redemption – Redemption through Jesus Christ. Restoration – Jesus restores the world and brings it back into alignment with Him.
