VBW-1000

Basis Weight Valve

!

High resolution - accurate flow control.

!

Actuator and valve combined are virtually free from stiction and backlash to obtain highest repeatability.

!

!

Alt. A: Large capacity ball segment type valve with virtually linear characteristic for optimal control. Alt. B: Well proven, reliable ball sector type valve with a more equal flow characteristics integrated with the actuator provides a unique compact, sturdy design which directly can replace older BTG/Eur-Control valves type VBW/VBW-10.

Compact, sturdy and simple design for highest durability.

The BTG Basis Weight Valve is designed for precision control of the pulp flow to the paper machine. It is distinguished by its extremely high accuracy and resolution in process conditions. The virtually linear characteristic of the alt. A valve makes it ideal for precision control while alt. B valve is an option if a more equal flow characteristic is preferred. The design has proven to be extremely reliable in numerous installations worldwide.

The actual control valve is either a ball segment type valve alt A, made by SOMAS, that is ideal for accurate flow control over the whole valve stroke, or a traditional ball sector type valve - alt. B, made by MKE under license from BTG. Due to its linear characteristics the alt. A valve type provides considerably higher flow capacity compared to valves of the same size of different design. Both valve types are as standard made for mounting between flanges (wafer design) for valve size up to 250 mm (10"). For the largest (300/350mm) valve sizes the valve is always flanged and made by Somas. The valve design for both models are based on a well-known standard design but adapted for the basis weight valve application. The ball segment/sector and spindle are hard-chromed for minimum friction and virtually maintenance-free operation. For the Somas type valves (alt. A), the ball segment can easily be replaced individually (for valve size > 80 mm) to provide a very low repair cost. The seat ring of carbon-filled PTFE provides a long lifetime and is very easy to replace. The stuffing box is designed for a virtually maintenance-free and low friction operation.

The Somas valve (alt. A) can, on request, be supplied in other variants such as: flanged also for small sizes, stellite coated or hard-chromed body in different variants for abrasive service or in equal-flow (V-port) model etc. D2024/2en

P.1

This conversion makes it less sensitive to disturbances. This signal is not intended to be used as a feedback signal in the control circuit, only as an indication of the valve position.

An electric actuator, identical for both valve models, driven by a synchronous motor controls the valve. The motor is connected to the valve spindle via a special highly accurate gearbox type Harmonic Drive

The valve can be directly controlled by a controller/computer making potential-free closing contacts, or open collector with pulse duration output. Via a separate relay box - not provided by BTG - a SCR (thyristor-pulsed output) can be connected.

The standard actuating time is 260 s at 50 Hz and 217 s at 60 Hz which is fully sufficient for virtually all applications. The valve and actuator are tied together using special arrangements to provide a transmission virtually free from backlash (play) and stiction (valve friction). The valve accuracy is measured using an actual complete valve and remains during a very long time in operation.

As option the actuator can be supplied with double feedback potentiometers for redundancy service. Another option is a small sized remote control unit - VBW-10RC which is combined with the ordinary electronics unit. The unit is suitable to install in the control panel to obtain possibility to manoeuvre the valve from two separate locations.

An electronics unit controls the valve. A digital instrument shows the valve position in %. The signal comes from a precision potentiometer in the valve. Before being sent to the electronics unit, this signal is transformed into a 4 - 20 mA current signal by an R/I-transducer located in the actuator. Fig 2 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
