S.G. Cowen: New Recruits 1) Briefly explain the steps used in the hiring process of S,G. Cowen? If you were a candidate, what school grade would you give them for their hiring process? Why? First, S.G. Cowen has Information sessions at college campuses (on campus round). The first interview round focuses on culture fit, and the interviewers have evaluation sheets. Then, the final candidates will be selected to go to Super Saturday to go through more interviews and have dinner with more interviewers. I feel like I would give it a B because I think overall it’s a very solid interview process. However, I think if they add behavioral/ technical tests, then the interview process will be more comprehensive. 2) What kind of hiring criteria is S.G. Cowen using? What is you evaluation of the hiring criteria? S.G. Cowen was looking for candidate who has solid work experience/ education background (from core schools), demonstrates patterns of success, has passion for technology and emerging growth, is self starter, and is creativity and energy. My evaluation of the hiring criteria will probably be similar, but I think being humble and honest is also very important as well. 3) If you were a junior member of the recruiting committee, which two candidates would you select? Why? Be ready to defend your candidates during the committee meeting. If I were a junior member of the recruiting committee, my choice of candidates are: Natalya Godlewska and Ken Goldstein. There is no doubt on Natalya’s ability, but the concern is more about communication and team working. However, I feel like if most interviewers were okay with her, then it shouldn’t be a concern. She might be a little tense because it’s an interview I
appreciated Ken’s honesty and also think that he would still be a strong team player because he will need the job to take care of his family....
