Desmodium gyrans
The scientific name is Codariocalyx motorius. Also known as the telegraph plant/semaphore plant and is Native to Southeast Asia. It is found all around the world today. Codariocalyx motorius dances to absorb most energy from the sun. It responds to warmth, high-frequency sound waves, or touch. Leaves and leaflets are lanceolate shaped. Charles Darwin studied the telegraph plant for many years. It has a nyctinastic “night closure” movement. The plant leaves droop at night.
They rise again in the morning. This is common among plants in the Fabaceae/Legume family.
Desmodium gyrans usually grows indoors, It is a fun houseplant. A special characteristic that it can "dance" and small, purple flowers.
It is frequently cultivated both in the gardens and in the pots. Traditionally been used in Chinese Medicine to treat diseases such as rheumatism, cough, malaria, pyrexia, dysentery, hepatitis....
