Gavin Nasseam McQueen Dr. Brianna Byllesby Abnormal Psychology April 18, 2021 Differential Diagnosis Assignment #3 Henry displays of delusions and the symptoms that he shows all seem to fall under the personality disorder of schizophrenia. Henry displays the lack of close friends/avoidance of family, odd thinking/speech, suspicious/paranoid ideas, and very odd beliefs. Henry’s delusions are based on people infiltrating his thoughts and that certain outlets of media were/are trying to brainwash him. Henrys delusions fall under the thought withdrawal and thought insertion of how delusions are displayed. Henry does not necessarily fit brief psychotic disorder just on the fact his symptoms/delusions have been going on for longer duration time. Also, there is really no sign of a remission period in Henrys situation so that also rules out brief psychotic disorder. The main reason that rules out schizophreniform disorder is also the time duration because henry’s delusions/symptoms have been occurring for the past eight months. Schizoaffective disorder does fit henrys situation by the fact that he is not showing depressive/manic mood states currently during his delusions and symptoms of schizophrenia disorder. Delusions disorder would fit for Henry’s situation but also does not because of the aspects of being distant from family, past depressive/mood state changes, and that the time duration does not match up to henry’s eight months of delusions. Shared psychotic disorder is ruled out for the fact that he does not share this disorder with anyone. Treatment wise psychopathy, dialectical behavioral therapy, educate family on disorder, psychoeducation,

cognitive behavioral therapy, and possibly the use of pharmacological treatment by using antipsychotics. These are the things that lead to the diagnosis of Henry having schizophrenia disorder and not the other ones....
