Discussion forum Unit 4. University of the people. Reflection Topic: Critical thinking Discussion Question unit 4 1. Having read this week’s assigned materials, how would you define critical thinking?

I have discovered a number of definitions after reading the materials and watching TED videos about critical thinking. Critical thinking is the conceptual, analytical, skill that helps one to logically think and analyses things, this is because one must use a number of different advanced thinking skills in a variety of complex ways I came to understanding that critical thinking allows us to reflect on, questioning and testing our own thinking processes. It allows us to think deeper and farther beyond our own understanding by basing on our thinking in logic not feelings, by paying attention ours and others assumptions and perspectives. It also allows us to care about doing peer assessment work honestly and accurate. It opens our minds to consider others point of view. Critical thinking allows us to ask thoughtful questions to better understand the situation or the problem we are facing and how we can formulate possible problem solving solutions and come up with positive final decision.

1. Why are employers making these comments? Are they justified – should colleges be responsible for teaching critical thinking? If not so whose job? According to Jonathan, H. (2020, March 2)” Content that once had to be drilled into students’ heads is now a phone swipe away, but the ability to make sense of that information requires thinking critically about it. Similarly, our democracy is today imperiled not by lack of access to data and opinions about the most important issues of the day, but rather by our inability to sort the true from the fake (or hopelessly biased).” The employers make these comment because critical thinking is key to any job position one must be able solve the company complex problems but here you can tell that most students take it for granted and think that once you graduate, you qualify to participate in the job market, without questioning yourself about what happens in a working class sector, and what experience or skills do you have and what level of problem solving are you at. However the university play its roll to teach students how to think critically, the students must also contribute on how thinking critically can help them to benefit in terms employment and they can test this by them, practically apply critical thinking to demonstration on the available problems before graduation.
