Description

Discussion unit 5 After completing the readings, think of a time when you were under stress and you used problem-focused coping and/or emotion-focused coping. Back in January this; I was able to get a job as an administrative assistance in a certain company here in my country. After four months due to corona, I lost my job. At first, I thought it would be easy and that things will be okay but after two months that is when I realized things are not okay. With this type of stress I used emotion-focused coping stress which is a type of stress management that attempts to reduce negative emotional responses that occur due to stressful events (Ogden, 2017). I used behavioral change where approached my friends to discuss my situation, watched positive movies and I accepted that yes I do not have a job but it is not over yet. Explain the situation and discuss how your coping strategies affected your health. Also, consider approach vs. avoidance coping in the context of stress related to illness. Mostly due to overthinking, I used to experience headaches all time, feeling weak, lack of appetite and sleep too. This really affected my health in that at one time I fainted for about 30 minutes, I went to visit doctor and I was told to sleep and watch my diet. With this type of stress, I used approach coping here I stated to approach the problem by gathering positive information mostly online and various ways to work online, and taking direct action plan. Share at least one idea for improving coping skills (or resilience) in those who are experiencing illness. To be able to improve one's coping skill especially for those going through an illness, I believe that it should start within oneself and the acknowledgement that you are under such stressful circumstance. After that, try to know what you can and cannot control. For the things that you cannot control, you can always opt to seek out education coping skills and support mentally and emotionally from others whom you think would be of great help to you.
