Diversity is a situation where people portray several differences in the community. It is common to have people in the community being discriminated on the basis of their differences. This shows that discrimination is the common mistake about diversity. It happens in almost every place around the world. Discrimination occurs in most cases because people do not understand that everyone is different. When people learn that we have differences, they will be able to appreciate them and not use them as a basis for discrimination. There are several areas in which diversity can be seen to cause discrimination. People can be discriminated on the basis of their gender, age, political views and religious opinions among others. (Ostrom, 2009). Physical disability can also be a basis of discrimination. Those who are physically disabled can be at times be discriminated due to the fact that they can be incapable of doing some things. However, this perception was changed by Professor Stephen Hawking. He was a man with physical disabilities but worked hard and became a scientist. He proved that physically disabled people have the ability to do things when given the opportunity. This shows that disabled people should not be discriminated. In the workplace, people also show various differences. These differences should not be used as a basis of conflicts and disputes in the workplace. People should learn to accept and appreciate the differences of others so as to avoid these conflicts. The differences can be seen through age, gender, physical disability, political views and religious views among others. Those will physical disabilities in the workplace should be given an opportunity to work just as Professor Stephen Hawking worked. When people understand, accept and

appreciate the differences of other people in the workplace, there will be peace and maximum production (DiTomaso, Post & Parks-Yancy, 2007).
